Promisedland Farm

Catharina Kessler
Houghtaling Hollow Road
East Meredith, NY 13757
phone: (607) 436-9095

In the early ‘90s, Catharina Kessler came to the Catskills after traveling the world -- literally!  A native of Sweden, Catharina worked many professional careers including airline stewardess, teacher and building supervisor before embarking on the long road to East Meredith.  A self-taught cattlewoman, Catharina now raises grass-finished Black Angus beef and lamb and sells handmade, traditional Swedish hats and mittens.

She'll be the first to tell you, she never saw a cow before starting Promised Land Farm.  Coming to the area with no agricultural background, her desire to be a farmer was enough to make the farm a success.  A one-woman operation, Catharina personally sees her livestock through from newborn to slaughterhouse.

Promisedland Farm sells meats by the half and whole.  Breeding stock is also available for those interested in animals suited to the grazing life.  For eaters, grass-finished meats have many health benefits.  Consumers are attracted to grass-fed meat’s high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs) and vitamin E.  (Find more information here www.eatwild.com)

Catharina’s handcrafted hats and mittens are available at local retailers, by calling the farm or at special festivals and events throughout the year.  Made in the traditional Lovikka style of northern Sweden’s indigenous people, these are some of the warmest woolens you’ll ever wear…and you don’t have to travel the world to find them!
