Since 1973 Sonja Hedlund and Dick Riesling have been growing their 80-acre farm in Western Sullivan County. If you stop by for a workshop or a tour, you will see the wide variety of activities at this farm!

There is always a flock of 50 or more sheep and goats, 10 horses, lots of chickens, good food in the gardens or in the freezer. Naturally raised lamb and goat are for sale along with tanned sheep skins and hand spun woolen yarn. Renewable energy systems are demonstrated by the a large array of solar electric panels, solar thermal tubes, a truck and furnace were converted to used vegetable oil, and a two story round straw bale house were added to provide comprehensive educational programming on energy conservation and renewable energy production. Monthly four hour workshops are available as well as shorter tours or visitors can combine farming and renewable energy interests during their stay.

Visitors are welcomed to the farm throughout the year. Ongoing workshops, tours and family days are a steady part of the farm's business. Tours have featured our several breeds of horses, goats, sheep, chickens and dogs as well as organic gardens. Specialized educational experiences lasting a few hours to several days for groups of small children and adults are available year round. "Farming with Kids" every Friday and Saturday in summer is time for children to do some farm work! Feeding chickens, sheep and goats, barn clean up and garden planting. People staying for a farm vacation in the year round Guest House have made new friends and some of the most enjoyable times. Interns from around the world regularly work at the farm.

Call or visit applepondfarm.com to plan your trip to enjoy the hillside view, make new friends or learn about farming with renewable energy.
